Bamboo Indah prides itself on combining the best of antique architecture and design, with modern and sustainable practices in a luxury environment. Indulge yourself with the best traditional cuisine available in Bali with homegrown ingredients and recipes that have crossed generations. Immerse yourself in the sounds of nature. Swim in a pool, so fresh you’ll share it with small fish. Stretch your legs during a morning rice paddy walk. And melt away with a Balinese massage. And when you’re not doing these things? Read a good book, or two.

Please note that Bambu Indah does not have concrete paths. Our paths are made from flat stones that are, at times, irregular. We are inappropriate for wheelchairs and strollers, but perfect for anyone looking to get off the beaten path. Please keep this in mind before booking your reservation.

Spa
We offer a range of relaxing body massages and treatments inspired by local modalities in our massage house or in the comfort of your house.

Food
Our restaurant Dapoer (kitchen) is open from 7am to 10pm and is proud to feature local cuisine prepared with great thought and recipes that have crossed generations.

Dapoer Bambu Indah received 2014 Snail of Approval by complying with Slow Food Bali’s guidelines of using at least 75% Indonesia-produced ingredients, sustainably managing our waste and paying fare wages to our staff.

Our team of gardeners, who are led by permaculture experts, plant and harvest traditional Balinese rice, organic vegetables, herbs and flowers throughout the property. Our produce is allowed to ripen on the vine and harvested daily for use in the restaurant and in traditional offerings to the Gods.

To ensure a healthy garden, we use natural fertilizers including compost made from our organic waste. Composting diverts waste from landfills, and helps eliminate the need for chemical fertilizers often used in commercial farms.

Minang House
Minang House is our unique space used for morning yoga, private dinners and special events. Though it isn’t a Balinese design, it’s story is just as amazing. A Fulbright scholar traveled to the Padang highlands in Sumatra and found the last of the great Minangkabau rumah gadang (large clan house) built from various types of local timber. She measured it exactly, came to us and asked us to create a replica out of sustainable black bamboo from the forests of Java.

The measurements are exact, no wall is straight, no pole is straight. This house was built in 30 days by Ibuku‘s craftsman while the roof took another 60. But as you see it towering each curve of the roof has the exact symmetry of a rising full moon. A place for celebration, a place for special dinners, a place for morning yoga, a place to sit and dream. Also unique is our amazing Minang Harp, installed by sound architect, Rudiger Schodel.

Sound architecture
Let the child in you play with the musical strings of our minang harp, installed by visiting sound architect, Rudiger Schodel. Sounds of our strings resonate across our resort, harmonizing with the sounds of nature. Explore or indulge, and experience the magic of sound and vibration therapy at your fingertips.

Kolam (swimming pond)
While most pools require large amounts of concrete and chemicals, we’ve built a sustainable pool without either. Instead, we dug a hole, lined it with high density polyethylene which is recycleable after its 60 year life cycle, and use lava stones and a vegetation regeneration zone, which naturally cleanses, filters and oxygenates the water and nurtures beneficial bacteria. A water flow system and high-density polyethylene liner, which can be recycled after 60 years of life, creates a natural pool that does not use chlorine, algaecides or cement.

The result? A harm free green pool, surrounded with large, beautiful stones from the mountains, a rope swing for the Tarzans in your family and deck chairs for the Princesses. Enjoy our unique pool as Nature intended and don’t be afraid if you run into a fish or two. They’re happy to share with you.

While we intend to lower our impact and protect our environment, our surrounding food gardens and our valuable guests from aggressive products, a natural pool comes with its challenges. The natural algae can grow sometimes faster, giving a green colour to our pool. Therefore, in order to maintain our pool the best way, we conduct a deep pool cleaning once a month, emptying it and filling in with regenerated water. It usually takes a full day and our guest are able to swim in new water the following day. While we always recommend our guests to enjoy a river bath during this day, reconnecting with the wild nature and experiencing the Balinese way of living, we welcome you to enquire about our pool maintenance before arrival, shall you feel your experience would be affected.

Our Houses
Immerse yourself in style and nature. Our charming Javanese teak wood houses are historic traditional homes built by native Indonesians over 100 years ago. Each served as bridal houses to a Javanese nobleman whose duty it was to provide a home for his new bride. These antique homes were hand picked by John Hardy before being carefully dismantled, relocated to Bambu Indah, lovingly restored and made available to you.
