Weda Eco and Diving Resort in Halmahera Island of Maluku Archipelago Indonesia
Weda Resort lies half way between Lembeh Strait and the Raja Ampat Islands. This new branch of Divers Lodge Lembeh is situated in the ‘heart of the heart’ of the coral triangle at the East coast of Central Halmahera, Molluca in Indonesia. It is the first and only dive center for hundreds of kilometers around. Instead of other boats you will encounter big groups of dolphins and sometimes whales or Dugongs. Why not give it a try to swim with them?
On the reefs, which traditionally are protected by the local villagers against overfishing, you will find the highest diversity in corals and fish life in the world. Here you can make easy, not deep dives or snorkelling on the shallow rich coral gardens and slopes or experience the adventure of endless dropping walls.
Some black sandy bays, such as the one in front of Weda Resort, offer good critter diving without muck; relaxed shore dives directly from your own terrace. However, be aware that you can have strange companions such as walking sharks, bobbit worms, seamoths, stargazer and Napoleon snake eels, thorny seahorses, pygmy pipe horses and flamboyant cuttle fish.
Weda Resort is build at the edge of the extended unexplored primary forest. No surprise to have an abundant bird life and flora here. Horn bills, parrots and cockatoos are daily visitors and wild orchids are growing at the roadsides. If you are ready for some hiking and birdwatching you can even see the Standard Wing Bird of Paradise. Some parts of the forest are accessible by four wheel drive or motored canoe. In the vicinity of the resort there are big cave systems and a salt water lake. Pilots named this area Jurassic Park.
Eco Resort:
Situated nearby the nature reserve of primary forest with lots of birds, Weda Resort is dedicated to maintain an Eco-friendly dive resort on Halmahera island Mollucas by implementing environmentally friendly technologies such as:
- Solar Water Heater to provide warm shower in the resort
- Ultra low emission outboard engines for the dive boat
- Solar Power is partly providing the 24 hours electricity
- Wind turbine to provide electricity by using wind energy
While Sagu (starch extracted from the pith of Sago palm stems) is a major staple food for the Halmahera people, Weda Resort made use of the “unused parts” to build all the four bungalows:
- Roof made of dried pinnated Sago palm leafs, plait by the local people
- Walls of “Gaba-Gaba” dried rib stalk of Sago palm (Metroxylon sagu)
Together with the tiled floors the bungalow offers a perfect blend of traditional techniques and modern comforts, cool houses even during a hot tropical afternoon.
DIVING WEDA HALMAHERA
Dive the untouched reefs of Weda bay, Halmahera, Indonesa: everything from pygmy pipehorse to giant grouper, from steep walls to lovely shallow coral gardens.
DIVE BOAT
Weda Divers is a 10 m long fiber glass speedboat specially designed and build for diving with 4 x 30 hp ultra low emission outboard engines, a toilet and 220 Volt power.
BIRDWATCHING HALMAHERA
Other than diving, Halmahera is one of the most favorite birding destination in Indonesia. Daily around the resort you can see wild hornbills, parrots, cockatoo, kingfisher, dove, eagles, flying fox, and many other birds. You can also visit nearby nature reserve for about 30 minutes easy trekking. Other birdwatching area including for the Standard Wing Bird of Paradise are accessible by our four wheel drive or motored canoe. Weda Resort is situated at the East coast of Central Halmahera in North Molluca, Indonesia.
The nearest airport Ternate (TTE) is serviced daily from Manado, Jakarta and Singapore (overnight via Manado or Makassar). From Ternate there is daily flight to Manado, Ujung Pandang (Makassar), Jakarta, and Bali.
Ternate Airport transfer to Weda Resort over land and sea in total takes about 4 hours tours through breathtaking views of volcanoes, traditional villages, lakes, rivers and primary forest with many birdlife.
